Why did a synchronisation add duplicate records to my systems?

If you change a field mapping after you have already synchronised a set of data, the next synchronisation is, in effect, a first-run synchronisation, which may cause the duplication of records. Duplications can occur if key fields are re-mapped. For example, if you change the mapping of a Name field in the address section, address records may be treated as new records during the next synchronisation because the records now look different from the records that already occur in your systems. Duplicate records may also be created during synchronisation under the following conditions: The Add or Ignore setting is selected in the Conflict Resolution tab of the Advanced Settings window. Your computer database file has become corrupted. (See Data not transferred.) Your device is not reading or writing data properly during the data transfer.

Note: This may require a hard reset. Please refer to your Installation and Getting Started Guide, for more information on performing a hard reset.

Blackberry Enterprise Server

Are the same rights or permissions needed to install the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, as are needed to administrate the BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

What settings should I check when upgrading my BlackBerry Enterprise Server?

Check that you are logging on as the account that installed the original software. This information can be found in the registry key, located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry and is used by the installation program during the upgrade process.

Warning: Using the Registry Editor can cause substantial damage to the Windows operating system if used carelessly.

Does the BlackBerry Enterprise Server support Lotus Domino Clustering?

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.0, Service Pack 2 and later for Lotus Domino supports the native Domino Cluster. If a user's mail file is located on a server that is a member of a Lotus Domino cluster, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will connect to the fail-over server to find the replica of the affected user's mail file when the primary server is unavailable.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.0, Service Pack 2 and earlier for Lotus Domino does not support automatic fail-over to another cluster configuration. If the primary mail server becomes unavailable, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will skip the affected user for the duration of the outage, and pick up where it left off when the server comes back online.

Note: The BlackBerry Enterprise Server itself does not support clustering.

How do I move the BlackBerry Enterprise Server from one computer to another?

Please refer to Knife Edge Cutovers for BlackBerry Enterprise Server for more information.

For the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, what does each of the status entries mean in the BlackBerry Outbound Queue?

Currently, there are two status levels for messages in the BlackBerry Outbound Queue. Each status labels the message redirection stage.

New Message: This indicates that the message is a new message that has been picked up by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and it is waiting to be processed to the wireless network.

Sent: This status indicates that the message has been processed by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and has been sent to the wireless network, but not necessarily to the handheld.

What is the role of the BlackBerryProfiles.nsf, BlackBerryOutbox.nsf, BlackBerry State Database, BBDir.nsf, and the BBStats.nsf?

BlackBerryProfiles.nsf is the BlackBerry User Profiles Database. This database is located in the Domino\Data\BES\ directory on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and it stores all of the user configuration information, such as the mail server, mail file, PIN, encryption key, and so on. Basically, this database serves the same purpose as the BESAdmin mailbox in Microsoft Exchange. Note: Although the BlackBerry Profiles Database contains the user's Internet address, if this field is changed in the Domino Directory, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will not recognize this change. The user must be re-added to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for the change to be reflected in the BlackBerry Profiles Database. BlackBerryOutbox.nsf is the BlackBerry Outbound Queue. This database is located in the Domino\Data\BES\ directory on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and it tracks the messages that are forwarded to BlackBerry from Vodafone handhelds. The BlackBerry State Database is a database that is installed with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.1, Service 2 and later for Lotus Domino, and it is located in the Domino\Data\BES\ State directory. The link between Lotus Notes and the handheld for email reconciliation, and for replying to, forwarding, and requesting more of a message, was originally an addition to the user mail file. With the addition of Service Pack 2 and later, the BlackBerry State Database is used for these tasks.

Note: The following two databases have been added with the installation of BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 2.2 for Lotus Domino BBDir.nsf contains the configuration and user information that the Mobile Data Service (MDS) requires to provide wireless access to the Internet and corporate applications. BBStats.nsf contains statistics information for the Mobile Data Service.

Why is there such a large volume of messages in New Message status in the BlackBerry Outbound Queue?

In the BlackBerryOutbox.nsf, only a total of 5 messages for every BlackBerry Enterprise Server user will be in the Sent state. This is to prevent a user from flooding the network. If, for example, you have 30 messages to redirect to your handheld at a time, only a total of 5 messages could be in the Sent status; the other 25 remain in New Message status and will be redirected when the BlackBerry Enterprise Server receives an acknowledgement from the handheld that it has received any of the messages in the Sent state. If the handheld is out of coverage or not available to receive the message, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will resubmit to the wireless network or the handheld for delivery any message with a status of Sent within 4 hours.

The messages in the BlackBerryOutbox.nsf may remain in Sent status for the following reasons:

The wireless base station that the handheld roams to has network latency.

The handheld was turned off.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server missed acknowledgement from handheld.

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server has lost its Service Routing Protocol (SRP) connection to srp.blackberry.net.
